If the sonographer sees anything that may require further assessment, they will explain this to you during your appointment. We’ll discuss the findings clearly and answer any questions you may have.
It’s important to remember that most findings that need a repeat scan are not serious, and around 15% of scans are repeated for various routine reasons such as baby’s position or limited visibility on the day.
We offer ultrasound scans from 6 weeks of pregnancy.
Please note: If your menstrual cycles are irregular, we recommend scheduling your scan at least two weeks after your first positive pregnancy test to help ensure that the pregnancy can be clearly seen on the scan.
We do require baby between 18 and 34 weeks for gender scans. Depending on baby´s position, we are happy to give our opinion as to what sex the baby is. However, ultrasound sexing of baby is not always 100 percent accurate, due to the position of baby, fluid levels, and mother’s BMI (body mass index). The sonographer will give you her or his best assessment. As with any scan in your own hospital, there is always a chance that you may accidentally see the sex of baby, we will do our best to ensure that you do not see it by chance if a surprise is wanted. There are instances when foetal position may not allow proper visualisation to adequately make that determination. When this happens you will be invited back free of charge for a limited gender check.
Ultrasound has been used in obstetrics for over 50 years. Despite many trials and studies it has not been proven to cause any harm to either baby or mother. The safety of ultrasound is constantly evaluated by the British Medical Ultrasound Society. The 4D scan uses the same ultrasound output levels as the ordinary 2D hospital scan. The machine uses sophisticated methods to transform the 2D image into a 3D/4D image. There is increasing evidence that seeing your baby on ultrasound increases the bond between mother, father and baby. Please note that the 3d/4d scan uses the same sound frequency as a normal 2d black and white scan.
You do not need a doctor’s referral letter for any of our scans.
